Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania (BGCWPA) is seeking a Youth Sports Instructor to lead basketball-focused athletics programs for youth in the Pittsburgh area. The role combines coaching, safety oversight, and program promotion, with duties including teaching skills, supervising practices, and coordinating events.

Responsibilities include extended hours including nights/weekends, facilitating fair play, and communicating with families; starting pay is $17 per hour with ability to work

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 2 years' coaching/sports experience (basketball focus).
• Dependable and reliable.
• Advanced customer service skills.
• Ability to establish relationships with youth, families, staff, and partners.
• Strong verbal and written communication.
• Strong time management and organization.
• Proficient in Google Suite.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Teach basketball and other athletic program skills emphasizing technique, rules, and strategy.
• Coach and teach basketball.
• Promote sportsmanship, cooperation, and responsibility.
• Work extended hours including nights and weekends.
• Supervise safe practices and contests.
• Encourage all athletes and fair play.
• Promote recruitment for BGCWPA.
• Respond to injuries using first aid techniques.
• Supervise youth.
• Communicate with parents professionally.
• Understand sport rules.
• Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
