Job summary

The Child Center of NY is seeking an Activity Specialist for P.S. 197 The Ocean School in Far Rockaway, Queens. You will design and facilitate project-based learning experiences across specialties and help youth present end-of-semester showcases.

Hours are Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Candidates should have 2 years of youth experience, be able to work independently, and preferably be bilingual. Proficiency in MS Office is also required.

Qualifications

• College Student or High School Graduate
• 2 years' experience working with children/youth in your specialization
• Bilingual in one or more languages (Preferred)
• Exemplary supervisory skills with youth
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Ability to plan and carry out assignments independently
• Ability to prioritize, adhere to timelines and multi-task

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain positive relationships with participants, families, school faculty, and Child Center colleagues
• Implement positive behavior management systems with clear expectations and rewards
• Facilitate activities within your specialization (dance, sports, arts, cooking, robotics, videography, drumming) culminating in a showcase
• Develop high-quality project-based lessons that are hands-on and engaging
• Engage participants with encouragement, direction, and coaching/resources
• Support program events such as showcases, field trips, productions
• Prepare related paperwork, materials, and supplies on time
• Attend curriculum and professional development opportunities for growth
• Perform other duties as assigned
