Job summary

The Child Center of NY is seeking an Activity Specialist to design and facilitate project-based learning experiences for youth at Far Rockaway location. You will guide multiple groups, support skill-building, and help youth present at end-of-semester showcases.

You will develop engaging, hands-on lessons in your specialty, from dance and sports to arts or robotics, with a focus on positive behavior support and meaningful youth engagement. Monday–Friday after-school schedule.

Qualifications

• College student or high school graduate.
• 2 years’ experience working with children/youth in your specialization.
• Exemplary supervisory skills with youth across school levels.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to plan and carry out assignments independently.
• Ability to prioritize, adhere to timelines and multi-task.
• Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Bengali or others (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Build positive, professional relationships with participants, families, school staff and colleagues.
• Implement positive behavior management systems and reward structures.
• Lead activities within your specialization (dance, sports, arts, cooking, robotics, videography, etc.) culminating in a student-led showcase.
• Develop high-quality, hands-on project-based lessons.
• Encourage participants and provide coaching/resources to engage in activities.
• Support program events and related functions (showcases, field trips, productions).
• Prepare materials and supplies on time; participate in staff development opportunities.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
