Job summary

YMCA of Catawba Valley is seeking a Yoga Instructor to lead safe and engaging group classes (land or water) while promoting member growth and retention. You will design routines, engage participants, and ensure timely class starts and equipment upkeep.

The role requires 3+ years of teaching, a current Yoga Alliance certification, excellent communication, and the ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends. Join a mission-driven team dedicated to community well-being.

Qualifications

• 3 years (300 hours) or more of teaching experience.
• Proof of current Yoga Alliance Certification (or equivalent).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Reliable, self-motivated and self-starter.

• Basic computer skills i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel.

Responsibilities

Overview

Under the direction of the Group Fitness Director/Coordinator/Administrator and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Yoga Instructor is responsible for instructing safe, effective and fun group exercise (land or water), as well as, enhancing the quality and growth of the program and retention of the participants of the Group Fitness programs.

Responsibilities

• Design and prepare class routines that meet all the necessary components and safe guidelines in accordance with current accepted practices of exercise physiology.
• Allow for pre/post class member engagement to build member relations.
• Record class attendance and maintain a minimum of 50% target attendance with continual growth.
• Responsible for teaching a minimum of 1 classes per week (1/month) including but not limited to at least one sub per month, and appropriately securing a substitute instructor when needed.
• Responsible to start and end class on time.
• Maintain equipment and keep group exercise area clean.
• Participate in Community Outreach campaign.
• Awareness of all branch emergency procedures.
• Must attend staff meetings.
• Participation in continuing education training specific to individual goals and branch objectives.
• Supports the mission, vision and direction of the YMCA of Catawba Valley.
• All YMCA staff are responsible for creating a safe, inclusive environment. This includes following all YMCA policies and procedures related to abuse prevention, reporting concerns or incidents immediately, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth and members.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to teach classes at a variety of days/times.
• Must be certified in something associated with yoga alliance
• Ability to work irregular work hours, including nights and weekends on occasion.
• Ability to walk, stand, and sit while maintaining alertness for extended periods of time.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
• Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds in weight.
• Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
• Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
• Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.
• Ability to “spot” participants.

Qualifications

• All mandatory YMCA of Catawba Valley trainings must be completed by the required date.
• 3 years (300 hours) or more of teaching experience.
