Job summary

The Building Center, Inc is seeking a Yard Specialist to maintain yard organization, load/unload materials, manage inventory, and ensure safety in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. You will operate equipment and coordinate with team members to meet customer demands and support warehouse productivity.

The role requires strong basics in math, reading comprehension, and ability to follow instructions, with forklift experience preferred and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Forklift experience preferred; not required.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Solid math skills for unit conversions and calculations.
• Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to interpret simple graphs.
• Ability to follow detailed, but uninvolved, written or oral instructions.
• Ability to handle a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

• Unload incoming trucks.
• Receive material from vendors.
• Perform regular inventory checks and report discrepancies to management.
• Assist in preparing shipments with proper packaging and labeling.
• Follow all safety protocols and guidelines.
• Clean and organize lumber yard.
• Assist walk-in customers with loading of vehicles.

Summary

This position involves maintaining the organization of the yard, which includes loading and unloading materials, managing inventory, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. The Yard Worker will be responsible for operating various equipment and vehicles, contributing to the overall productivity of the warehouse. Additionally, this role requires effective communication with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and resolve any issues that may arise. Ultimately, the Yard Worker helps to facilitate the timely movement of goods, which is essential for meeting customer demands and maintaining operational excellence.

Job Duties

• Unloads incoming trucks
• Receives material from vendors
• Conduct regular inventory checks and report discrepancies to management
• Assist in preparation of shipments by ensuring that all items are properly packaged and labeled
• Follow all safety protocols and guidelines
• Cleans and organizes lumber yard
• Assists walk-in customers with loading of vehicle
• Performs pre-shift checklist of forklift
• Performs other duties, as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

Education/Experience

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
