Job summary

Buchheit Metals is seeking a Yard Loader for a part-time role in Sparta, IL. The worker will sort and rack lumber, operate a forklift, and assist in loading materials for delivery or transfer.

Responsibilities include assisting customers, maintaining yard organization, performing forklift inspections, and following safety and loss-prevention procedures. Prior forklift experience is preferred and physical duties are involved.

Responsibilities

• Read work orders or invoices to determine materials to move and load.
• Assist customers with loading purchased merchandise.
• Maintain yard and rack appearance in an orderly, clean manner.
• Operate forklift or industrial truck to load or move merchandise.
• Complete daily forklift inspections.
• Adhere to loss prevention, inventory control, and compliance procedures.
• Maintain safety and identify hazards for employees or customers.
• Communicate customer issues to internal staff.
• Other duties as assigned.

POSITION TYPE: Part-Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lumber Yard worker is responsible for sorting and racking lumber according to grade markings and size. They often operate a forklift or Industrial truck to assist in moving and loading materials and products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Answers questions, identify and direct customers to building materials and merchandise in the lumber yard
• Load merchandise on to store delivery trucks for delivery or transfer
• Assist with unloading deliveries, as necessary
• Remove lumber from units and place boards in rack, according to grade and length
• Reads work order, invoice, or follows oral instructions to determine materials or containers needing moved and/or loaded
• Assist customers with loading purchased merchandise
• Maintain the appearance of the yard and racks in an orderly and clean manner
• Operate forklift or industrial truck to assist in loading or moving merchandise and materials
• Complete daily forklift inspections
• Adhere to Loss Prevention, inventory control, and compliance procedures
• Safety awareness of anything in store that may be hazard to employees or customers
• Effectively communicates customer issues and concerns to all applicable internal staff members
• Additional duties, as assigned
