General: The Yard dog driver is responsible for managing the movement and staging of trailers to and from the shelter, shipping dock, plant, and scales. The driver maintains order on the truck yard and stages trailers for operations. The yard dog driver ensures the safe and correct movement of trailers. The position reports to the CAS or Warehouse Supervisor with a primary work schedule of Monday - Thursday (days) 6:00am - 5:30pm, with flexibility for overtime, early or late shifts, and weekends as needed.
Specific Duties / Responsibilities:
- Operate with a safety-first mindset to move trailers to and from the yard and loading locations.
- Maintain order in the truck yard and stage trailers for operations.
- Assist with docking / undocking trailers and ensure safe and correct movement of trailers.
- Inspect containers and perform yard checks.
- Safely load product onto trailers, keep accurate load documentation & delivery paperwork.
- Keep equipment and storage lot clean and in proper order; perform ongoing housekeeping.
- Work within GMP, safety, and USDA guidelines to achieve top quality work.
- Willingly learn new skills, cross-train others, and train new vehicle drivers on safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or GED (minimum).
- Experience: Working knowledge/experience in Yard dog equipment operation.
- Material Handling & Forklift Experience: Required.
- Additional: CDL; truck driving experience preferred.
Skills/Abilities/Attributes:
- Strong experience operating/troubleshooting yard jockey equipment.
- CDL / Truck driving experience (preferred but not required).
- Solid understanding of food safety & animal welfare compliance.
- Self-directed team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer and math skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift/move up to 40 lbs.; occasionally 50 lbs.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, stoop up to 10 hours per shift.
- Work safely indoors & outdoors in varying temperatures and wet environments (e.g., 35-40°F / 100°F).
