Job Title: Yard Jockey / Yard Driver

Job Summary

The Yard Jockey will move and organize trailers around the yard, primarily operating and maintaining yard equipment as a Lite driver. The main goal is to efficiently move materials within the yard, including driving a semi-truck inside the premises, collecting loaded containers, and returning empty ones. Professional conduct when dealing with customers and staff is required. The role involves following all yard driving rules and taking direction from multiple supervisors.

This position requires working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, adhering strictly to all health, safety, and environmental standards for metals recycling.

Responsibilities

• Pre- and post-inspection of equipment, maintaining inspection records, and performing basic maintenance.
• Daily inspection of trailers and maintaining a comprehensive list of yard transportation equipment.
• Collaborating across departments to ensure the safe and efficient movement of trailers and materials, following all yard traffic rules.
• Loading and unloading trucks hauling scrap metal, inspecting and grading metals for inventory.
• Performing daily safety inspections and communicating with supervisors and material handlers.
• Working independently when driving, assisting customers, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
• Conducting routine maintenance such as refueling, lubrication, and cleaning.
• Maintaining neat and organized work areas, ensuring safety and hygiene.

Qualifications

• Must pass a medical physical, drug test, and background check.
• High school diploma or GED preferred; foreign education acceptable.
• Bi-lingual skills (English & Spanish) are a plus.
• Effective communication skills, ability to understand instructions, and basic math skills required.

Job Expectations

Adhere to all safety, health, and environmental regulations and policies.

Physical Requirements

• Work environment includes scrap metal recycling and yard operations.
• Operate trucks up to 18 wheels, hydraulic equipment, and tools.
• Physical demand is light to moderate, including climbing ladders and working in rocking machinery.
• Sensory demands include hearing, vision, touch, smell, and taste.
