Job Title: Yard Jockey / Semi-Truck Driver

Position Overview

The Yard Jockey will move and organize trailers around the yard, primarily operating and maintaining yard equipment as a Lite driver. This includes driving a semi-truck within the yard (not outside company premises), collecting loaded containers, and returning empty ones. Professional conduct with customers and staff is required, along with adherence to all yard traffic rules and directions from multiple supervisors. This role involves working outdoors and indoors in varying weather conditions, following all safety, health, and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

1. Pre- and post-inspection of equipment, maintaining records, performing basic maintenance, and coordinating with mechanics for preventative upkeep.
2. Daily inspection of trailers and maintaining an inventory list of yard equipment.
3. Collaborating with supervisors and peers to ensure the safe and efficient movement of trailers and equipment within the yard.

Job Duties

• Load and unload trucks hauling scrap metal.
• Inspect and classify metals for inventory tracking.
• Perform daily safety and operation inspections.
• Communicate with supervisors and material handlers regarding loading specifics.
• Operate scrap metal vehicles independently.
• Assist customers and resolve issues as needed.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including housekeeping and waste disposal.
• Ensure punctuality and regular attendance.
• Organize materials efficiently and ensure cleanup is completed at shift end.

Qualifications

• Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
• Must pass a background check.
• High school diploma or GED preferred; foreign education acceptable.
• Bi-lingual skills (English & Spanish) a plus.
• Effective communication and basic math skills required.

Job Expectations

Comply with all safety, health, and environmental regulations and policies.

Physical Requirements

• Work environment includes scrap metal recycling and yard operations.
• Operate trucks up to 18-wheelers, hydraulic lifts, and other tools.
• Physical demand is light to moderate, including climbing ladders and handling equipment.
• Sensory demands include hearing, vision, touch, smell, and taste.
