Job summary

Lautenbach Recycling in Mount Vernon, WA is seeking a Yard Hostler to safely move vehicles and trailers around the yard. This fast-paced, physical role supports loading, unloading, and yard operations while complying with safety and OSHA standards.

You will conduct pre-trip checks, maintain logs, and coordinate with the Yard Manager and equipment operators. A valid driver’s license is required; CDL may be needed. Competitive pay and a supportive team environment are offered.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience as a Yard Hostler, Yard Jockey, or similar role in a warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required.
• This is a great opportunity for a new CDL holder to gain hands-on experience, with the goal of eventually moving into a local CDL driving position.

Responsibilities

• Maneuvering vehicles/trailers and containers between areas of our facility.
• Ensure the accurate and timely setup of trailers for loading and unloading.
• Cleaning and refueling designated vehicles.
• Perform daily safety checks and pre-trip inspections on all equipment.
• Be able to lift heavy parts associated with this type of work.
• Compliance with all Company, State, Federal and OSHA policies, safety, and standards.
• Able to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment, with strong multitasking abilities, attention to detail, maximization of efficiencies and organizational skills.
• Maintain accurate logs of all trailer movements, ensuring documentation is available and accurate for inventory and audit purposes.
• Communicate effectively with Yard Manager, Equipment Operators, and other staff to align priorities and address any issues or challenges.
• Ensure timely communication with the Yard Manager to address any equipment issues or malfunctions.
• Keep the facility clean.
• Ensure adherence to all safety protocols, including utilizing personal protective equipment and ensuring safe trailer connections and movements.
• Monitor and maintain a safe driving speed within the yard, ensuring the safety of all personnel and property.
• Conduct daily inspections of yard trucks and other equipment, reporting any malfunctions or issues to management promptly.
• Seek direction when caught up on regular tasks and space is available.
