Job summary

Lautenbach Recycling in Mount Vernon, WA is seeking a Yard Hostler to safely move vehicles and trailers around the yard and support efficient yard operations. You will handle roll-off boxes, container dump duties, and trailer setup in a physically demanding setting.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Yard Hostler is responsible for the safe and timely movement of vehicles/trailers around the facility's yard and plays a key role in the overall efficiency of the driving team as well as yard operations. It is a fast-paced, very physical environment where moving roll-off boxes and trailers, dumping materials from containers, and setting up trucks are part of your daily duties. This position requires compliance with all safety regulations and protocols. The Yard Hostler position can be physically demanding and is subject to variable weather conditions.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Maneuvering vehicles/trailers and containers between areas of our facility.
• Ensure the accurate and timely setup of trailers for loading and unloading.
• Cleaning and refueling designated vehicles.
• 
  Perform daily safety checks and pre-trip inspections on all equipment.

  Be able to lift heavy parts associated with this type of work.
  
• 
  Compliance with all Company, State, Federal and OSHA policies, safety, and standards.

  Able to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment, with strong multitasking abilities, attention to detail, maximization of efficiencies and organizational skills.
  
• Maintain accurate logs of all trailer movements, ensuring documentation is available and accurate for inventory and audit purposes.
• Communicate effectively with Yard Manager, Equipment Operators, and other staff to align priorities and address any issues or challenges.
• Ensure timely communication with the Yard Manager to address any equipment issues or malfunctions.
• Keep the facility clean.
  
• Ensure adherence to all safety protocols, including utilizing personal protective equipment and ensuring safe trailer connections and movements.
• Monitor and maintain a safe driving speed within the yard, ensuring the safety of all personnel and property.
• Conduct daily inspections of yard trucks and other equipment, reporting any malfunctions or issues to management promptly.
• Seek direction when caught up on regular tasks and space is available.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Safety-Oriented: Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines is critical.
• Communication: Good communication skills to effectively coordinate with other team members.
• Sense of Urgency: This is a fast-paced role that requires the ability to work quickly, prioritize on the fly, and keep pace with a high-volume yard.

Education and Experience:

• Demonstrable experience as a Yard Hostler, Yard Jockey, or similar role in a warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required.
• This is a great opportunity for a new CDL holder to gain hands-on experience, with the goal of eventually moving into a local CDL driving position.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, bend, and perform physical labor.
• Capable of working in various weather conditions.

Working Hours:

Flexibility to work different shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

• The pay range is $20/hour to $26/hour. The employer pays 100% of the L&I rates – which means you take home more of your pay.

Location:

We are in Mount Vernon just north of Highway 20 in the beautiful Skagit Valley.The site is a fully operational Construction & Demolition recycling center which has frequent traffic, dust, and noise.
