Job summary

SIGMA-US is seeking a Yard Operator to move trailers within the yard, dock areas, and loading zones in Elk City, Oklahoma. You will stage trailers for loading, perform yard checks, and ensure accurate trailer placement to support plant and warehouse operations.

The role requires attention to safety, good communication, and reliable records using SAP or Excel. The ideal candidate holds a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and at least three months of related yard or warehouse

Qualifications

• Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
• Minimum three months of related driving, yard, or warehouse experience.
• Ability to safely operate yard trucks and perform trailer maneuvers.
• Basic computer skills and record-keeping using company systems.

Responsibilities

• Move trailers to/from loading docks, staging areas, and yard locations safely.
• Spot, dock, and reposition trailers to support schedules.
• Conduct routine yard checks; report discrepancies to supervisor.
• Inspect trailers and yard truck before and after use; report issues.
• Coordinate with warehouse, shipping, and receiving teams on movements.
• Ensure trailers are secured and in correct dock positions.
• Maintain records of trailer movements and yard inventory in SAP/Excel.
• Assist with loading/unloading using forklifts or pallet jacks.
• Follow safety policies, DOT regulations, and yard rules.
• Keep yard areas clean and organized; perform other duties as assigned.

Responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers within the yard, dock areas, and designated locations. This includes staging trailers for loading/unloading, performing yard checks, and ensuring accurate trailer placement to support plant and warehouse operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Description

• Operate a yard truck (yard dog/terminal tractor) to move trailers to and from loading docks, staging areas, and designated yard locations in a safe and efficient manner.
• Perform trailer spotting, docking, and re-positioning to support shipping and production schedules.
• Conduct routine yard checks to verify trailer locations, seal integrity, and trailer readiness; report discrepancies to supervisor.
• Inspect trailers and yard truck before and after use; report maintenance or safety issues immediately.
• Communicate with warehouse, shipping, and receiving teams to coordinate trailer movements and priorities.
• Ensure trailers are properly secured (chocked, locked, and sealed where applicable) and in correct dock positions.
• Maintain accurate records of trailer movements, yard inventory, and activity logs using company systems (e.g., SAP, Excel).
• Assist with loading/unloading operations when needed, including use of forklifts or pallet jacks.
• Follow all company safety policies, DOT regulations (if applicable), and yard traffic rules.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of yard areas to ensure safe operations.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid Driver’s License & clean driving record required
• Minimum three (3) months of related driving, yard, or warehouse experience
• Ability to safely operate yard trucks and perform trailer maneuvers

ENVIRONMENTAL / WORKING CONDITIONS

• Ability to work overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and various shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd)
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, or wind
• Exposure to moving vehicles, trailers, and outdoor yard traffic

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Regularly required to sit, stand, and operate vehicle controls
• Frequent walking, climbing in/out of yard truck, and coupling/uncoupling trailers
• Occasional bending, crouching, kneeling, and reaching
• Ability to lift a minimum of ten (10) lbs
• Vision requirements include close vision, depth perception, and ability to focus
• Work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise, and varying outdoor conditions
