Position: Yard Driver
Department: Shipping & Receiving
Reports To: Department Manager
Full Time Employment
Shifts
- 1st Shift: Monday – Thursday, 5:30 am – 4:00 pm
- 3rd Shift: Friday – Sunday, 5:00 am – 5:30 pm
- 4th Shift: Sunday – Tuesday, 5:00 pm – 5:30 am
- 5th Shift: Wednesday – Friday, 5:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Essential Job Functions
- Perform trailer switches under the direction of the department manager and team leaders; most switches are urgent and critical.
- Conduct daily inspections of yard equipment, report defects, and ensure units are maintained safely.
- Execute general warehouse duties, including loading and unloading of trailers and operating forklift-type equipment as needed.
Qualifications & Basic Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; previous warehouse experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing job duties and departmental needs.
- Proficiency in backing 48‑ and 53‑foot trailers.
- Acceptable driving record (MVR) required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move distances and lift up to 70 pounds.
- Capability to climb, step, push, pull, and carry objects within the stated limits.
- Driving and operating forklift/truck equipment as required.
Mental/Reasoning Requirements
- Reading: simple and complex text comprehension.
- Writing: simple to complex written communication.
- Basic math skills, judgment, and decision‑making capabilities.
- Clerical tasks such as sorting and basic data entry.
Work Environment
- Shift work, including night and weekend shifts.
- Outdoor and indoor conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, and noise.
- Use of machinery and hazardous materials; work with others occasionally.
- Physical contact with others and access to high places and mechanical equipment.
