Job description

The Y-Kids Program Leader is a vital role within the Peninsula Family YMCA, dedicated to creating an engaging, safe, and enriching environment for children aged 12 weeks to 12 years. The primary focus of this role is to design and deliver exceptional, interactive program activities that are thoughtfully crafted to engage, inspire, and support the development of children. These activities are carefully tailored to promote creativity, learning, and social interaction, ensuring a positive and enriching experience that meets the highest standards of quality and aligns with the program’s mission to nurture each child’s potential.

The Y-Kids Program Leader role involves building meaningful and supportive relationships with program participants, their families, and branch members to foster a sense of community and trust. The Y-Kids Program Leader upholds the organization’s values by modeling integrity, responsibility, and respect, creating a welcoming environment that encourages positive behavior and personal growth.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the daily operations of Y-Kids, including the staff schedule, timecards, participant and parent interaction, program development, and special events as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean site and establish a positive relationship with all program participants, their families, and branch members.
  • Plan and implement all daily activities for the participants.
  • Arrive on time for shifts.
  • Set up and break down the room appropriately for use. All items are stored in the closet. Keep the room safe at all times.
  • Greet parents as well as children as they arrive. Make a point to learn their names.
  • Introduce yourself to new and prospective members. Inform them about the Y-Kids Program and other branch Youth Programs.
  • Treat all children equally without showing favoritism.
  • Promote YMCA HEPA standards during the program. Encourage community by having children eat snack together at the table.
  • Acknowledge parents as they pick up their child. Inform them of any important details that may have occurred. BE SURE TO LOG/SIGN THEM OUT.
  • Participate in site, department, branch, and association events.
  • Respond positively to direction and take constructive criticism from supervisors.
  • Frequently wash hands for 20 seconds minimum with water and soap.
  • Complete all mandatory ADP LMS safety training and Y-USA e-Learning before the first shift in the facility.
  • Attend and/or lead staff meetings and trainings as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 16 years old
  • Available to work mornings, afternoons, and/or some weekends
  • Experience working with youth
  • Ability to work independently
  • Creativity, good judgment, adaptability
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills/customer service skills
  • Must complete all trainings and certifications – CPR/AED, Child Abuse Prevention, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens – within 30 days of hire.
  • Fingerprint background check clearance; authorized work permit if under 18
Preferred Qualifications
  • 18 years or older
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or other languages
