Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Kansas City is seeking substitutes for the Y Club to keep activities running when regular staff are away. As a substitute you'll help ensure a positive atmosphere with homework support, physical activity, healthy snacks, and group activities.

This role offers flexible schedules (mornings, afternoons, or both), no long-term commitment, and a chance to gain experience with kids. Pay starts at $15.50/hour and increases with experience and education.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18; high school diploma or GED required in KS.
• No prior experience required; suitable for students, parents, retirees.
• Flexible, part-time role with shift-based scheduling.
• Ability to engage with and supervise children in indoor/outdoor activities.

Responsibilities

• Keep kids safe, engaged, and having a great time.
• Help with homework, games, crafts, sports, and snack time.
• Build positive relationships with kids, families, and co-workers.
• Follow YMCA safety and child protection procedures at all times.
• Model the Y's core values: caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility.
• Respond to sub requests promptly and pick up shifts regularly.

Overview

The Y serves thousands of families a year by providing safe, fun, and engaging after-school programs for their children. When regular staff need time off, substitutes step in and keep the magic going for the kids. As a substitute you'll help to ensure a positive atmosphere with homework enrichment, physical activity, healthy snacks, group activities and positive relationships.

Schedule & Pay

Schedule: Flexible weekday morning and/or afternoon shifts (you choose what works for you)

Pay: Starting at $15.50/hour (increases based on experience & education)

Qualifications

Who We're Looking For

You don't need years of experience - we're looking for reliable, caring people who enjoy working with kids. This is a great role for college students, parents, retirees, or anyone looking for flexible part-time work.

• Minimum age of 18 (high school diploma/GED required in KS)
• Previous experience working with school-age children is a plus (babysitting, nannying, camp, childcare programs, etc.)
• Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions
• Able to actively engage with and supervise children in a range of indoor and outdoor activities - this is an on-your-feet role that takes energy and alertness
• A genuine interest in helping kids learn, play, and grow
