The X-Ray Technologist is responsible for using imaging equipment to produce x-ray images of patient's anatomy requested by the physician in order to aid the physicians in surgical cases, diagnosing injuries, diseases or other illnesses. The X-Ray Technician’s main priority is to ensure that the patient is comfortable and safe throughout the image taking process, in accordance with applicable policy and procedure, standard of care, and in accordance of state certification.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

● Operates or oversee operation of radiologic or magnetic imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes

● Positions patient on examining table and set up and adjust equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area as requested by physician

● Uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff

● Determines patients' x-ray needs by reading requests or instructions from physicians

● Prepares examination rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready; escorting patients from the main lobby to x-ray department; take thorough and accurate patient medical histories and monitor patients' conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physician

● Explains the procedure and exam to patients and ensure patients are exposed to limit amounts of radiation while keeping the patient’s safety in mind

● Positions imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination; take radiographic x-ray images for patients

● Reviews and evaluate developed x-rays, video tape, or computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes

● Sends the x-ray images to the provider and to outside facilities if necessary, burn images and upload from and to PAC’s system

● Documents the procedures that were performed to obtain an x-ray image; Print the next day x-ray order tickets

● Provides assistance to physicians or other technologists in the performance of more complex procedures as needed

● Completes quality control activities, monitor equipment operation, and report malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service department

● Performs general administrative tasks, such as answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, or pulling and filing films

● Assists with on-the-job training of new employees or students or provide input to supervisors regarding training performance

● Place proper X-ray equipment (C-arm, O-arm, etc.) in operating rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment is ready.

● Aids physicians or other technologists in the performance of more complex procedures as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements:

● Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Radiology Technologist program, required

● Previous X-ray experience in high volume facility preferred

● Current ARRT and IEMA certifications

● Basic working knowledge of Microsoft and Google suites

Environmental/Working Conditions:

Working environment is in an office/clinic and surgical setting. Occasional work required outside normal business hours including evenings and weekends.

Physical/Mental Demands:

● Sit or stand for long periods of time, walk for periods of time, kneel, crawl, stoop, and climb stairs.

● Requires lifting, carrying, or moving heavier objects i.e., pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.

● Possess full range of motion in shoulders and arms, including reaching above or below the shoulder in order to operate medical equipment when needed.

● Finger dexterity, the ability to twist hands/wrists repetitively.

● Vision (e.g., depth perception, color vision, strong vision up close), Hearing (e.g., high pitch sounds, soft or distant sounds).
