Job summary

City of San Luis Obispo is seeking a motivated Operator for the City’s Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF). This six-month limited-term role supports essential operations to protect water quality and gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art systems.

The position requires flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, holidays and weekends, and participation in standby/callout rotations while advancing technical skills in treatment processes and instrumentation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical aptitude encouraged.
• Desirable: SWRCB operator/trainee certification or progress toward Grade III WWTPO.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain wastewater treatment equipment including pumps, valves, and sensors.
• Calibrate instruments and monitor process controls.
• Record data and generate operational reports and logs.
• Assist with safety training and stand-by rotations.
• Provide tours and educational outreach as needed.
