The University of New Mexico Writing Center is seeking a Writing Center Consultant to coach writers on their writing processes and works in progress. The role involves developing tutoring strategies and collaborating with faculty, tutoring supervisors, and fellow tutors.
Candidates should be prepared to help maintain a welcoming Writing Center environment and to complete reporting forms for tutoring appointments as needed.
A Writing Center Consultant coaches writers on their writing processes and their works in progress, developing various strategies for supporting writers. Through continued study of Writing Center scholarship, they learn best tutoring practices. They collaborate with faculty, tutoring supervisors, and fellow tutors. Other duties may include maintaining a welcoming Writing Center environment and completing reporting forms for tutoring appointments.

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications: Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and completion of at least one of English 1110, 1110Z, or 1120 with a grade of B or higher or the equivalent (e.g., placement into English 1120). Also valued, though not required, is successful completion of English 1120 and/or Technical Writing, experience with writing in any language that is not their original language, interest or experience in teaching, proficiency with computer applications such as cloud documents, spreadsheets, or Zoom, or other special experiences or skills that could be useful in tutoring writing.
