Job summary

Furman University is seeking a Writer & Media Relations Specialist within University Marketing & Communications. You will write and edit news content, feature stories, and institutional narratives across print, web, and social channels, while providing proactive media relations support.

You will collaborate with faculty, staff and leadership to develop editorial ideas, ensure consistency with Furman’s voice, and adapt messaging for diverse audiences under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications or related field.
• 5+ years of professional writing and editing experience.
• AP style, feature writing and news writing expertise.
• Experience providing media relations support under deadline pressure.
• Ability to write across formats: print, web, social, video scripts.
• Familiarity with generative AI tools in editorial workflow.
• Excellent interviewing and collaborative skills.
• Strong attention to detail and proofreading.

Responsibilities
