Job summary

IREDELL-STATESVILLE SCHOOLS is seeking an assistant coach to organize and supervise a total sports program and to bring substantial coaching experience in major sports along with strong technical knowledge of the sport.

The role reports to the head coach and athletic director and includes mentoring student athletes, coordinating staff, and contributing to program development and safety and sportsmanship objectives.

Qualifications

• Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport. (Major sports)
• The assistant coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport
• The assistant coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.

Responsibilities

• Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
• Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.
• Mentor student athletes to promote development of character traits like trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
• Direct student managers, assistants and statisticians.
• Assist athletic director in scheduling, transportation and tournament preparation.
