Louisville Metro Government is seeking a Wrecker Operator in Louisville, KY. The role involves operating wreckers and related equipment, towing illegally parked and impounded vehicles, and maintaining logs.

You will unlock vehicles, handle tow operations, and assist with auctions under supervision. The position requires a high school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of wreckers/heavy equipment experience, plus a valid driver’s license and pre-employment checks.

Qualifications

• High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
• Two (2) years of experience in the operation of wreckers or heavy equipment.
• Must not have been convicted of a felony.
• Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening.
• Must submit to a pre-employment polygraph test.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
• Must submit to fingerprinting for criminal history check.
• Applicants who have illegally bought or used marijuana, including medicinal cannabis, within six months of application will be disqualified.
• Applicants who have illegally sold marijuana, including medicinal cannabis, within one year of application will be disqualified.
• Applicants who have illegally bought, sold, or used any controlled substance or narcotic drug, other than marijuana, without a prescription within six years of application will be disqualified.

Responsibilities

• Tows illegally parked cars, cars from accident and crime scenes and stolen cars to the Vehicle Impoundment Lot.
• Tows damaged or broken-down police vehicles and city equipment.
• Unlocks locked vehicles.
• Answers phones and assists callers in locating their vehicles and maintains tow logs.
• Collects impounded vehicle fees.
• Releases impounded vehicles to the owners.
• Logs impounded vehicles and records license numbers.
• Prepares vehicles for auction and tows vehicles to the auction site.
• Takes wreckers to shop for repairs.
