Job summary

MedStar Health seeks a Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse to function as a consultant practitioner and educator for patients, staff, and physicians regarding ostomies, fistulas, wounds, incontinence care. The role aligns with hospital policies and standards and supports education and research initiatives.

The incumbent will assess needs, provide guidance, lead staff training, and develop strategies to maximize ostomy and continence services.

Qualifications

• RN with DC state licensure or valid compact licensure
• CWOCN certification required
• WOCN certification expected within 1.5 years of hire
• Minimum 2 years of professional nursing practice including direct patient care and leadership/teaching experience
• Knowledge of adult education principles and effective patient/staff education methods

Responsibilities

• Provides consultation on ostomy, skin, continence care for inpatients and outpatients
• Provides preoperative counseling and postoperative care guidance to patients/families
• Develops and evaluates education programs for patients and staff
• Maintains and updates knowledge in wound, ostomy, and continence therapy and related products
