Job summary

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is seeking an experienced Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (WOCN) to join our Nursing Division. This Magnet-designated academic medical center offers education, professional development, and evidence-based patient care leadership.

The WOCN acts as a consultant and educator for patients, staff, and physicians on ostomies, fistulas, draining wounds, pressure ulcers, and continence care. Schedule includes standard weekdays with flexible options.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse program.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
• Master's Degree in Nursing Education or related field preferred.
• DC RN licensure and/or compact state licensure required.
• CWOCN certification required.
• CPR certification within 90 days.
• Minimum two years of professional nursing with direct patient care and leadership experience.
• Demonstrated teaching experience with children and adults.

Responsibilities

• Provides consultation to patients, staff and physicians on ostomy, wounds, and incontinence care.
• Develops and delivers patient education and staff training.
• Evaluates ostomy skin and continence products for hospital use.
• Participates in research and educational programs in the specialty.
• Upholds departmental policies and committee participation.

About the Job

About the Role

The WOCN in this position functions as a consultant practitioner and educator for patients, staff and physicians concerning problems with inpatients or outpatients with ostomies fistulas/draining wounds, pressure wounds and incontinence care.

Schedule

Monday - Friday Five-8 hour days or Four-10 hr days

Key responsibilities include

• Provides consultation to patients, staff and physicians relating to preoperative, postoperative and routine care of ostomies, fistulas/draining wounds, pressure wounds and incontinence care.
• Assesses the need for selective methodologies, strategies, content resources and conducts/implements patient education and staff training programs.
• Determines and evaluates ostomy skin and incontinent care products to be stocked for hospital use.
• Participates in research and other educational programs/projects relevant to the area of specialty and/or profession as requested.
• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures; attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.

Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of a Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse program that is accredited by the Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurse Society required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
• Master's Degree in Nursing Education or related field preferred

License/Certifications

• RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required
• CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
• CWOCN - Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse by the Wound Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board required.

Experience

• A minimum of two years of professional practice as a nurse which includes experience in direct patient care, leadership experience in a clinical setting. Demonstrated teaching experience with children and adults required.

USD $97,947.20 - USD $162,801.00 /Yr.
