Job summary

MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center is seeking an experienced WOCN nurse specialist to serve as a consultant and educator for ostomy, fistula, draining wounds, pressure wounds and continence care. You will educate patients, staff, and physicians and ensure care aligns with laws, regulations and hospital standards.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse program (accredited by WOCN)
• Master's degree in Nursing preferred
• WOCN certification in progress with expected completion within 12 months
• Combination of education/training and experience considered

Responsibilities

• Provides consultation to patients, staff, and physicians on ostomy, fistula, draining wounds, pressure wounds, and incontinence care.
• Provides pre-operative counseling and direct care for ostomy skin and incontinence problems; conducts outpatient follow-up as needed.
• Assesses and develops education programs; selects care strategies and resources.
• Evaluates ostomy skin and continence products for hospital use.
• Participates in research and educational projects related to the specialty.
• Generates reports and documents according to guidelines.
• Maintains knowledge in wound ostomy and continence therapy; participates in required meetings and committees.
