Job summary

Baton Rouge General is seeking a compassionate Wound & Hyperbaric Care Technician to support wound care services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will assist with patient intake, direct care, and preparation of treatment areas to improve outcomes and patient experiences.

The ideal candidate will have CNA and/or EMT certification, strong communication, teamwork, and meticulous documentation in a fast-paced clinical setting. Prior wound care experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must-have CNA Certification or equivalent
  • EMT certification or military medic experience preferred
  • Nursing student with RN program completed clinicals preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient intake: vitals, history, height/weight
  • Provide direct patient care per care plan
  • Prepare treatment areas for wound/hyperbaric procedures
  • Assist with wound dressings and NPWT under licensed staff
  • Reinforce patient education on wound care and therapy
  • Monitor patients during treatments and report changes
  • Assist with patient transfers and safety
  • Maintain documentation and charge capture
  • Sterilize and stock equipment; maintain enviroment
  • Support infection prevention and safety standards
  • Respond to emergencies as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What You Will Do

As a Wound & Hyperbaric Care Technician, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to support patients receiving specialized wound and hyperbaric treatments. Your role will help improve patient outcomes and enhance the care experience for patients and families.

  • Assist with patient intake activities, including obtaining vital signs, height, weight, and patient history information
  • Provide direct patient care and comfort measures according to the patient’s plan of care
  • Prepare patients and treatment areas for wound and hyperbaric care procedures
  • Assist with dressing removal, wound cleansing, dressing application, and negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) procedures under the direction of licensed personnel
  • Reinforce patient education related to wound care and hyperbaric therapy
  • Monitor patients during treatments and promptly report changes or concerns to licensed staff
  • Assist with patient transfers and transportation using appropriate safety techniques
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation, treatment records, and charge capture information
  • Clean, sterilize, stock, and maintain treatment equipment and supplies
  • Support infection prevention, environmental safety, and department cleanliness standards
  • Respond effectively during emergency situations and assist as needed
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Experience Requirements
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred
  • Previous wound care experience preferred
Special Skills, License & Knowledge Requirements

Preferred:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification
  • Basic EMT Certification
  • Military Medic experience
  • Nursing Student who has completed fundamental nursing clinicals in an RN program
Preferred Skills:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with patients of all ages
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to safely lift, transfer, and transport patients as needed
  • Knowledge of basic patient care and infection prevention practices
Safety & Compliance Expectations
  • Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality requirements
  • Follows all organizational safety, infection prevention, and environmental care standards
  • Promotes patient and employee safety through adherence to established policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Utilizes proper infection control, aseptic technique, and equipment handling procedures at all times
