Job summary

Baton Rouge General is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our burn care team. You will coordinate comprehensive care for burn patients, perform thorough assessments, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop care plans.

The role emphasizes leadership in a high-acuity setting and pediatric to adult patient care across shifts. The ideal candidate has strong clinical judgment, burn care or critical care experience, ACLS certification within a year, and knowledge of ECG rhythms.

Qualifications

  • Strong clinical judgement and collaboration with interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to prioritize care and perform comprehensive age-group assessments.
  • Burn care, wound management, or critical care experience preferred (1 year RN experience desired).
  • ACLS certification within 1 year of hire is required.
  • PALS/ABLS and CC course preferred.
  • Knowledge of ECG rhythm interpretation; American Burn Association membership preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and provide comprehensive patient care for burn patients, ensuring assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation in collaboration with the team.
  • Conduct systematic physical, psychosocial, functional, and nutritional assessments.
  • Develop and update individualized care plans with the care team.
  • Deliver direct patient care and implement prescribed interventions.
  • Delegate tasks while maintaining oversight and accountability.
  • Evaluate patient responses and modify plans as needed.
  • Provide patient/family education and coordinate discharge planning.
  • Deliver pediatric to elderly burn care, including debridement support and wound dressing.

What You Will Do:

Coordinate and provide comprehensive patient care for burn patients, ensuring assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation are completed in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.

  • Conduct and document systematic physical, psychosocial, functional, and nutritional assessments
  • Formulate nursing diagnoses and expected outcomes based on collected data
  • Develop and update individualized care plans, collaborating with all care team members
  • Implement prescribed interventions and deliver direct patient care
  • Delegate appropriate tasks while maintaining oversight and accountability
  • Evaluate patient responses to care and modify plans as necessary
  • Provide patient/family education and coordinate discharge planning
  • Deliver specialized care for pediatric to elderly patients with burn injuries, including debridement support, wound dressing, and procedural preparation
  • Direct unit operations during assigned shift, including admissions, discharges, communication, and staff assignments
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned
