Summary
Registered Nurses at Mary Free Bed are a key member of the multi-disciplinary team that collaborates to provide patient-centered care. Within the Nursing Department, we require a specially trained nurse to work in collaboration with the physician to manage and direct our skin and wound care. This RN will: provide direct and indirect patient care, communicate with physician/managers/CCC/nurses/therapists/dieticians, as appropriate about changes in the patient's clinical condition and recommend appropriate course of action to best meet the needs of our patients.

- Staff will provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification or registration and as required by law and regulation.

- Quality Nursing Care - The wound nurse is responsible for:
- Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting wound/skin services to meet patient needs consistent with an established plan of care.
- Coordinating and planning of care of wound patients throughout the organization.
- Organizing weekly wound rounds including all disciplines
- Responsible and accountable for the development and application of the standards and research to enhance the quality of care to patient rehabilitation population.
- Instructing nurses, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team in care of patients with pressures ulcers, wounds, and at high risk for skin breakdown.
- Providing education to patients, families, therapy and nursing staff about preventative measures or techniques to optimize wound healing.
- Identifying and addressing issues that require further attention.
- Chart audits
- Maintenance of appropriate documentation/pictures of wound and progress of care in the EHR.
- Quality Improvement - Mary Free Bed is committed to providing rehabilitation services that are of the highest possible quality. The wound RN will participate in performance improvement through identification of ways to improve care, reporting unexpected events or medical errors, and reporting "near misses".
- The Wound Care RN will contribute by identifying problems and seeking solutions. Promote patient/family satisfaction where possible; participate in departmental efforts to monitor and report customer service.
Service Pillar of Excellence- Customer Service - The wound nurse is required to demonstrate excellent customer service standards and behaviors, while interacting with patients, family members, physicians, and colleagues. He/she must deal discreetly and sensitively with confidential information, and as needed, will perform customer service recovery with patients and families' members.
- Physician and colleague relationships - Interdisciplinary team integration and collaboration across disciplines to provide patient-centered care is a priority at Mary Free Bed. The wound nurse must work in continual collaboration with identified wound care physicians for rounding and all patient orders, as well as with all physiatrists at MFB in consultation on their patients to ensure appropriate communication regarding care of the patients.

Essential Job Qualifications:
- Licensure: Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan.
- Education: Associate's degree in nursing is required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Certification in Wound Care is preferred or will be required within six months of taking position. If certification is acquired during employment at MFB the expense will be paid by MFB in exchange for a minimum of 2-year commitment to the position once certified.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Experience:- Previous experience as a wound RN, especially in a rehabilitation or acute care setting, is preferred but not required as per above.
- Strong critical thinking, decision-making, delegation, and leadership skills are required.
- Time management and organizational skills are very important, as well as effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to work effectively under time requirements and deadlines, problem-solve when facing unexpected issues, handle interruptions, and prioritize effectively.
