Job Description

*Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN) preferred*

Full-time, Days, $20,000 Sign-on Bonus

As an Experienced Certified Wound Care Nurse, you will be required to consistently demonstrate effective leadership behaviors, advance evidence-based practices, lead unit governance initiatives, and coach others to excel and grow in their professional nursing roles. To include:

Clinical Practice

  • Provides independent carefor the unit-specific patient population; serves as a clinical resource, integrates evidence into practice, and functions effectively in unit-specific roles (e.g., arrest team for ICU, triage for ED).
  • Accountable to patients and familiesfor care processes and outcomes during an episode of care.
  • Accountable to peersfor advancing group practice on the unit and to the nurse manager for overall work performance.
  • Serves as a clinical expertand professional resource for unit nurses, utilizing clinical expertise to teach informally on the unit or through formal classes.
  • Advances clinical practiceon the unit by consistently integrating evidence into practice, forming a solid foundation for unit practice.

Service/Quality

  • Leads effortsto address Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI) improvement opportunities; develops, implements, and evaluates action plans.
  • Leads performance improvement initiativesby designing, implementing, evaluating, and disseminating results.
  • Monitors patient and unit safety standardsand actively contributes to the development and implementation of improvement plans.
  • Coaches CNI and CNIIson performance improvement (PI) and/or evidence-based practice (EBP).
  • Complies with, participates in, and leads regulatory activitieswithin the unit/division or organization.
  • Leads the developmentof Performance Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice, or research at the unit level, meeting at least one form of advancing practice in the continuum of research. Leads at least one primary project using a model as the project’s framework, identified within the portfolio.

Unit Operations

  • Performs charge roleas scheduled and coaches new charge nurses.
  • Oversees unit orientation programand plans clinical experiences for orientation.
  • Serves as a unit steward(e.g., liaison for lab, nutrition, pharmacy).
  • Mentors and coaches other nursesto advance their development and maintain competencies required for the patient population served.
  • Role models and holds peers accountablefor Healthy Work Environment guidelines (communication, collaboration, effective decision-making, recognition, leadership, staffing).
  • Orients nursesto unit-level governance structure and councils.

Professional Development

  • Serves as an expert preceptor, coach, and mentorto new nurses, students, and preceptors.
  • Mentors and coaches unit leadersor those assuming leadership roles on councils or major governance initiatives.
  • Leads unit processesfor the development of ancillary personnel’s skills and development; leads unit-based peer review processes.
  • Actively engages in advancing own practiceand serves as a role model for others.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Licensureas a Registered Nurse (RN) in Maryland, or eligibility to practice due to Compact state agreements as outlined by the MD Board of Nursing.
  • BSN or Conferred BSN degreerequired as of July 1, 2013.
  • Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN)certification.
  • Current CPR certificationrequired.
  • Relevant clinical work experiencerelated to unit practice.
  • Maintenance of 20 contact hoursof education every two years.
  • Membership in a professional organization.
Additional Information

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Current and active specialty certification, OR
  • Current matriculation or completionof a degree or certificate program (Post-Baccalaureate or higher, 12 credits or greater) within the past 24 months, OR
  • Formal teaching(submit signed “Approval for Formal Teaching”) within the past 24 months, OR
  • Membership in a professional association board or committeewithin the past 24 months (not a hospital committee), OR
  • Active participation as a peer reviewerfor a professional journal (minimum of 2/year, submit signed “Peer Reviewer Validation Form”).
  • Demonstrated abilityto assume a clinical leadership role and effectiveness as a multidisciplinary team member.
  • Proficiency in computer systemsfor managing patient information.
  • Knowledge and skillsnecessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served.
  • Understanding of growth and development principlesover the lifespan and ability to assess data reflective of patient-specific needs.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ensures patient safetyin job functions and through participation in hospital, department, or unit patient safety initiatives.
  • Takes actionto correct observed risks to patient safety.
  • Reports adverse events and near missesto appropriate management.
  • Identifies possible risksin processes, procedures, and devices, and communicates them to those in charge.
