SUMMARY : The Wound Nurse is responsible for providing primary skin care to residents under the medical direction and supervision of the residents’ attending physician, the Director of Nursing, or the Medical Director of the facility, with an emphasis on treatment and therapy of skin disorders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Confer with the Director of Nursing and/or other licensed nursing personnel regarding the dermatologic disorders of residents in the facility.
• Examine residents and their records to recognize normal and abnormal findings, and refer residents to physicians when necessary.
• Provide assessment and diagnostic services using observation, inspection, and palpation techniques.
• Initiate requests for consultation or referral and respond to requests from residents, physicians, or nursing staff.
• Identify, manage, and treat specific skin disorders and lesions, including skin abrasions, foot problems, decubitus ulcers, infections, scaling diseases, and benign tumors.
• Assist in resident rehabilitation activities, including range of motion exercises, ambulation, and emotional support, and monitor physical therapy results.
• Provide preventative health care advice regarding nutrition and skin disorder prevention.
• Report findings and recommendations to physicians, Medical Director, or DON regarding resident care.
• Implement and interpret policies and procedures related to skin care treatments to physicians, residents, families, and the public.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• LPN / RN with current unencumbered state licensure.
• Wound Certification from an accredited institution preferred.
• Current CPR certification required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience as an LPN / RN.
