**Job Description**
SUMMARY: The Wound Nurse is responsible for providing primary skin care to residents under the medical direction and supervision of the residents’ attending physician, the Director of Nursing, or the Medical Director of the facility, with an emphasis on treatment and therapy of skin disorders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Confer with the Director of Nursing and/or other licensed nursing personnel regarding the dermatologic disorders of residents in the facility.
- Examine the resident and their records to recognize normal and abnormal findings and determine when to refer to a physician.
- Provide assessment and diagnostic services using observation, inspection, and palpation techniques.
- Initiate requests for consultation or referral and respond to requests from residents, physicians, or nursing staff.
- Identify, manage, and treat specific skin disorders and lesions, including skin abrasions, foot problems, decubitus ulcers, infections, and benign tumors.
- Assist in resident rehabilitation activities, perform range of motion exercises, assist in ambulation, and monitor physical therapy results.
- Provide preventative health care advice, including nutrition and skin disorder prevention.
- Report the residents' status and care to the attending physician, Medical Director, or DON.
- Implement and interpret policies and procedures related to skin care treatments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- LPN/RN with current unencumbered state licensure.
- Wound Certification from an accredited institution preferred.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience as an LPN/RN.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Ability to speak and write in English.
- Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and carry it for at least 50 feet.
