Job summary

Sunnyside Alliance Church is seeking a full-time Worship Director to lead our Sunday morning music ministry, grow volunteers, and oversee the audio/visual and tech teams, as well as our social media platforms and planning center. The role includes worship planning with leadership, rehearsals, and leading musicians, typically playing guitar/piano or singing.

Evening rehearsals, weekend services, and regular office hours are expected.

Qualifications

• Strong Christian faith and heart for worship.
• Experience leading worship or managing technical teams.
• Proficiency in leading a band and vocalists.
• Recruit, train, and shepherd volunteers for the worship and production teams.
• Familiarity with audio systems and lighting.
• Collaborate on worship services and song selection aligned with vision.

Sunnyside Alliance Church - Worship Director

The Sunnyside family is a community of individuals who love God and love one another. We are a mixture of blue- and white-collar workers, from farmers and laborers to businessmen/women and medical professionals. The congregation is multi-generational, from toddlers to great-grand parents. We recently completed a $400,000 multi-year renovation of the church. We are also very thankful to have a new senior pastor and are looking forward to what God will do in this next season!

Location

Sunnyside Alliance church is located on the waters of Maryland’s beautiful Eastern Shore, nestled in farm country between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. While there are plenty of popular chain store and restaurants, you will find an even greater number of local, unique shops, attractions and places to eat. When you’re not out on a boat, in the field, or eating a delicious meal, there is plenty to do locally such as downtown shopping, the movie theatre, hunting of all varieties, sightseeing of local, historic sites such as the lighthouse and even a newly erected Harriet Tubman Museum. While we are in a quiet rural setting, you can easily reach the beach at Ocean City, Maryland or the endless cultural activities of Washington, DC in just over an hour.

Spiritual Needs

As a part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, Sunnyside is strongly missions focused both internationally as well as in our local community. In 2024 the church hired a new senior pastor and is now searching to fulfill staffing needs in both worship ministry.

Job Description

We are looking to hire a full time Worship Director to lead our Sunday morning music ministry and to grow and recruit new volunteers to the worship team. This position also involves oversight of our audio/visual booth and tech teams, along with our social media platforms, church website and planning center.

Worship Director Duties & Qualities

• Spiritual Maturity: Strong Christian faith (see Romans 12:3-21 & Galatians 5:22-23), has a heart for worship.
• Experience: Previous experience leading worship or managing technical teams is required.
• Musical Competency: Proficiency in leading a band and vocalists.
• Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, and shepherd volunteers for the band, vocal team, and production team (sound, lighting, media).
• Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with audio systems and lighting.
• Worship Planning: Collaborate with leadership to design Sunday services, special events (Christmas, Easter), and select songs that align with the church’s vision.
• Musical Leadership: Lead rehearsals and Sunday worship, typically playing an instrument (guitar/piano) and/or singing.
• Technical Oversight: Manage, maintain, or oversee audio-visual equipment and software (e.g., Planning Center Online, ProPresenter, streaming platforms).
• Scheduling: Organize the weekly rotation of volunteers, often using scheduling software.
• This position often requires working evenings for rehearsals and on weekends for services.
• Maintain regular office hours.

Full Time Salary Package: 45K-55K

Sunnyside desires to care for its staff in the best way possible. Salary will be determined using several factors such as level of education and experience as well as our church size and Dorchester County’s cost of living.

• The position also features a yearly worship budget that reflects equipment needs, materials and interests.
