Job summary

Southampton Union Free School District is seeking a collaborative, engaging, and student-centered World Language (Spanish) Teacher for Southampton Intermediate School. The successful candidate will be passionate about developing students who are bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural in Spanish.

The teacher will support the District's vision of advancing New York State's Seal of Biliteracy by providing high-quality instruction to students participating in both the International Spanish Academy

Qualifications

• Valid New York State Teaching Certification for Spanish 7–12.
• Demonstrated knowledge of middle school Spanish instruction and world language best practices.
• Experience teaching Spanish Language Arts preferred.
• Familiarity with the International Spanish Academy (ISA) program is preferred.
• Experience preparing students for Checkpoint A, Checkpoint B, and DELE assessments is preferred.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Commitment to fostering bilingualism, biliteracy, biculturalism, and student achievement.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, standards-based Spanish instruction to middle school students.
• Teach Spanish and Spanish Language Arts courses for ISA and non-ISA programs.
• Advance student proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Spanish.
• Support students in achieving the New York State Seal of Biliteracy.
• Prepare students for Checkpoint A, Checkpoint B, and DELE assessments.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum, assessments, and instructional practices.
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
• Foster an inclusive, engaging, and culturally responsive classroom environment.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

The ideal candidate is comfortable teaching Spanish and Spanish Language Arts to middle school students and possesses a strong understanding of curriculum, assessment, and instructional best practices.

Appointment Type:Probationary (Tenure Track)

Salary:In accordance with the Southampton Teachers Association (STA) Agreement.
