Job Description

Summary: The Woonsocket Learning Community provides all learners a safe and rigorous learning experience that embraces diversity, culture, and individuality to create productive members of our global community. An individual who supports interdependent student-centered classrooms that promote discourse and collaboration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets students' individual needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guides the learning process toward achieving curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and similar activities to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of the students regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Diagnose the learning disabilities of students regularly, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents regularly.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents regarding the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
Qualifications
  • RIDE All Grades World Language Teacher
  • Spanish, French, or Italian preferred
  • ESL/MLL Certification is required
  • Right to Read Certification is required
  • Strong experience working with students with behavioral, social, and emotional challenges
