Chads Design Build in Madison, WI is seeking a Working Superintendent who blends hands-on carpentry with leadership to guide a residential remodeling team.

You read plans, plan sequencing, mentor apprentices, and keep projects moving on kitchens, baths, additions, basements, and full-home renovations across the Madison area.

This role rewards craftsmanship, collaboration, and owning the work from layout to punch-list while staying hands-on whenever needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of residential remodeling or construction experience.
• Strong general and finish carpentry skills.
• Experience reading and working from plans and drawings.
• Ability to mentor and lead other carpenters.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality residential carpentry and remodeling work.
• Lead framing, finish carpentry, trim, cabinetry, doors, windows, and other construction tasks.
• Read and work from construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
• Organize and direct day-to-day field work.
• Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and other trades.
• Plan sequencing of work and keep the project moving.
• Identify field issues and determine practical solutions.
• Set the standard for craftsmanship and professionalism.
• Mentor less experienced carpenters and guide the team.
• Communicate with homeowners and trade partners professionally.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized jobsite.

You're an experienced carpenter who knows how to build things the right way.

You can read plans, lay out work, solve problems in the field, and take pride in the details. You've developed strong carpentry skills over the years, and now you're ready to take on more responsibility by helping lead a jobsite and guiding other carpenters while still staying hands-on with the work.

Chads Design Build is looking for a Working Superintendent who brings strong residential remodeling experience, excellent carpentry skills, and a desire to grow into a greater field leadership role.

Our projects include kitchens, bathrooms, additions, basements, and whole-home renovations throughout the Madison area. We value craftsmanship, teamwork, and people who take ownership of their work.

What You'll Do

• Perform high-quality residential carpentry and remodeling work
• Lead and participate in framing, finish carpentry, trim, cabinetry, doors, windows, and other detailed construction work
• Read and work from construction plans, drawings, and specifications
• Help organize and direct day-to-day work on the jobsite
• Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and other trades
• Help plan the sequence of work and keep the project moving
• Identify field issues early and help determine practical solutions
• Set the standard for craftsmanship, jobsite organization, and professionalism
• Guide and mentor less experienced carpenters
• Communicate with homeowners and trade partners professionally
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized jobsite
• Take ownership of work from layout through final details and punch-list completion
• Continue developing your leadership skills while remaining actively involved in the work

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of residential remodeling or construction experience
• Strong general and finish carpentry skills
• Experience working independently from plans and drawings
• Strong understanding of residential construction methods and sequencing
• Ability to troubleshoot construction challenges and make sound field decisions
• Experience guiding or mentoring other carpenters
• Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship
• Professional communication and a team-first approach
• Ability to take ownership of a project and keep work moving
• Personal hand tools
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience as a Lead Carpenter, Foreman, or similar field leadership role
• Experience across multiple phases of residential remodeling
• Experience with kitchens, bathrooms, additions, basements, or whole-home renovations
• Experience with light plumbing or electrical work
• Interest in energy-efficient or sustainable building practices
