Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective workforce training students.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide accurate information about programs, costs, schedules, and expectations.
  • Follow up with prospective students and maintain records of inquiries, communications, and enrollment activities.
  • Guide students through enrollment with required forms and documentation.
  • Explain program expectations, attendance requirements, and responsibilities.
  • Assess enrollment readiness and monitor progress to support enrollment completion.
  • Provide guidance on CDL prerequisites, permits, testing, and medical certification requirements.
  • Assist students in accessing funding opportunities and financial aid resources.
  • Coordinate scheduling, registration, and communications for open enrollment classes.
  • Maintain training schedules and assist with class capacity, waitlists, and schedule changes.
  • Collect and report data on inquiries, enrollments, referrals, and participation.
  • Participate in recruitment events and outreach activities.
  • Support continuous improvement of student and employer services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Workforce Training Navigator serves as the primary point of contact for prospective students, employers, and community partners seeking workforce training opportunities through Southeast Community College. With a primary focus on CDL programming, this position guides prospective students from initial inquiry through enrollment by providing information regarding program requirements, permit preparation, funding opportunities, and available support services.

The Workforce Training Navigator coordinates open enrollment workforce training schedules, responds to contract training inquiries, identifies barriers to participation, and connects students with resources that support successful enrollment and completion. The position works collaboratively with staff, instructors, employers, community organizations, and workforce agencies to advance student success and workforce development goals.

This position will work half-time - approximately 20 hours per week on average - and will be eligible for pro-rated SCC benefits.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective workforce training students.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide accurate information regarding workforce training programs, including program requirements, schedules, costs, and expectations.
  • Conduct timely follow-up communications with prospective students and maintain accurate records of inquiries, communications, and enrollment activities.
  • Guide prospective students through the enrollment process, including completion of required forms and documentation.
  • Explain program expectations, attendance requirements, and student responsibilities.
  • Assess enrollment readiness, monitor student progress through enrollment milestones, and provide ongoing support to promote successful enrollment and completion.
  • Provide guidance regarding CDL prerequisites, permit requirements, testing procedures, medical certification requirements, and training readiness.
  • Assist students in understanding and accessing available funding opportunities and financial assistance resources.
  • Facilitate referrals to GAP/PACE, IowaWORKS, WIOA, employer-sponsored training programs, scholarships, and other funding resources.
  • Collaborate with funding agencies and community partners to support student access to training and financial assistance.
  • Identify barriers that may impact enrollment, participation, persistence, or completion and assist students in developing strategies to address those barriers.
  • Connect students with appropriate college, community, and workforce resources and document referrals and outcomes in accordance with college procedures.
  • Coordinate scheduling, registration, and communications for Workforce Development open enrollment classes.
  • Maintain training schedules, monitor enrollment levels, and assist with class capacity, waitlists, cancellations, and schedule changes.
  • Respond to contract training inquiries from businesses, industries, government agencies, and community organizations.
  • Gather information regarding employer training needs and refer opportunities to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain records related to training schedules, employer inquiries, and contract training referrals.
  • Collaborate with Workforce Development staff, instructors, admissions personnel, workforce agencies, employers, and community partners to support workforce training initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student and employer records.
  • Compile and report data related to inquiries, enrollments, referrals, scheduling, and participation.
  • Participate in recruitment events, informational sessions, orientations, and community outreach activities.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts designed to enhance student and employer services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Workforce Training Navigator must have the ability and mobility to serve a rural service area; travel within the SCC district or statewide is required. Occasional out of state travel. Must be able to work on a basis of "available as work demands" in addition to a fixed schedule.

The Workforce Training Navigator will abide by the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One to three years of experience in customer service, student services, workforce development, admissions, advising, training coordination, or a related field.
  • Experience using computer software and database systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while providing excellent customer service.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in workforce education, continuing education, training administration, or a community college environment.
  • Familiarity with CDL training programs, workforce development funding resources, and student enrollment processes.
  • Experience coordinating training schedules, registrations, or workforce development programs.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and business and industry partners.
