Job summary

South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) seeks a Workforce Specialist to support Employment Services across the SC Works Centers. You will guide jobseekers, perform referrals, assessments, and résumé help, and collaborate with Business Consultants to place candidates.

Travel to Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens counties may be required. A high school diploma with four+ years in related fields is needed; a BA with two+ years is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with at least four years in customer service, recruitment, selection, interviewing, counseling or related field.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred with at least two years in related duties.

Responsibilities

• Educate on DEW programs and services, assist with SC Works Center activities and outreach.
• Provide timely, professional customer service and referrals to jobs posted via SC Works.
• Collaborate with staff and partners to schedule activities and match customers to positions.
• Develop community resources referrals and promote SC Works services through workshops.
• Support SC Works Centers and all Workforce programs on an ongoing basis.

Job Description

Our Workforce Specialist serves within the Employment Services (ES) division. ES programs improve the functioning of the labor market by bringing together individuals who are seeking employment and employers who are seeking workers. The SC Works system provides jobseekers with career guidance, job referrals, assessments, and résumé assistance. Free tools to assist employers include posting job openings, recruiting and screening candidates, and reviewing job market trends. South Carolina’s 12 local workforce development boards administer the SC Works Centers throughout the state.

The Workforce Specialist reports to the Employment Services Division in the Worklink Region. This role delivers a broad range of services to assist individuals in resolving barriers to employment and increasing skills to obtain or maintain employment.

This position may require scheduled travel to the following counties: Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens.

Key Responsibilities

• Educate individuals on DEW programs, policies, and services, assist with all services within the SC Works Center, and perform resource room activities and outreach.
• Ensure timely, professional, and attentive customer service.
• Collaborate with co-workers, management, and partner staff for scheduling activities.
• Refer qualified applicants to jobs posted through SC Works.
• Work directly with Business Consultants to match customers and clients to position openings.
• Develop relationships with community resources for seamless referrals.
• Promote SC Works services through community and center workshops and activities.
• Provide ongoing support to SC Works Centers and all Workforce programs.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

Education and Experience: A high school diploma with a minimum of four years of experience in customer service, recruitment, selection, interviewing, counseling, case management or a related field.
