Job summary

Lone Star College-North Harris is seeking an instructor to provide direction, teaching, and support for Construction Supervision course objectives within the college and community. Responsibilities include teaching and advising students, and planning, maintaining, and delivering courses to foster student success.

Teachers collaborate with certification agencies to ensure alignment and high program outcomes, manage labs, and support student placement while delivering a dynamic learning

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Engineering Graphics, Drafting Technology or CAD.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in the respective field.
• Proficiency in building codes.

Responsibilities

• Teaches Construction Supervision courses at varied times/locations.
• Creates engaging lessons and promotes student involvement.
• Develops syllabi for each course and laboratory as required.
• Evaluates student progress and provides timely feedback.
• Recruits and advises students in their area.
• Manages classrooms and labs to meet state requirements.
• Assists with student job placement and coordination with cert agencies.

Job Description

Purpose and Scope

Provides direction, teaching, and support for Construction Supervision course objectives and contributes to the educational environment of the Lone Star College and the community. Responsibilities include teaching and advising students. Primary functions are to plan, maintain, access, and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student success and student learning.

Essential Job Functions

1. Teaches courses in Construction Supervision at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs, making continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods
2. Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
3. Develops and uses a syllabus for each course or laboratory within college and departmental guidelines
4. Evaluates students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and informs them in a timely manner of their progress in the course. Identifies and assesses student who are in need of additional instruction to successfully complete the course objectives
5. Responsible for recruiting and advising students in their area
6. Responsible for managing their classrooms and labs, including assuring lab facilities meet state requirements
7. Responsible for assisting with student job placement
8. Works directly with certification agencies to ensure alignment and high level of program and student success
9. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

Physical Abilities

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity

Work Schedule and Conditions

• Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment, and any specialized equipment standard within the discipline/industry
• Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
• Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment with exposure to safety hazards typical within the industry
• Hours will vary depending on class time; Instructors are required to meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction

Required Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Engineering Graphics, Drafting Technology or Computer-Aided Design in the Structural, Civil or Architectural fields; Or a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or Structural/Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management
• Minimum 3 years of experience in the respective field
• Proficiency in building codes

Commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
