Job summary

The Greater Washington Urban League seeks a Workforce Learning and Career Coaching Manager to design and deliver workforce development programs, lead career coaching, and build employer partnerships. Qualifications

  • : Bachelor's degree in Education, Adult Learning, Workforce Development, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field is required.
  • : Master's degree in Adult Education, Organizational Leadership, Counseling, Workforce Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • : Relevant professional certifications such as GCDF, CCSP, CWDP, or comparable workforce development and coaching credentials are a plus.
  • : 5 years of progressive experience in business management and administration with significant experience managing a large team, preferably in nonprofit.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate workforce readiness workshops, career development courses, and professional skills training.
  • Deliver instruction on career exploration and goal setting, resume/cover letter development, workplace communication, professionalism and soft skills, and digital literacy.
  • Adapt curriculum to diverse learning styles and create inclusive learning environments.
  • Provide one-on-one career coaching and develop individualized employment plans.
  • Assist participants in identifying career pathways aligned with labor market opportunities.
  • Support job search activities, networking, interview prep, salary negotiation, and career advancement.
  • Monitor progress and maintain coaching documentation and referrals as needed.
  • Coordinate training schedules, enrollment, and workshop logistics; track outcomes and ensure grant compliance.

Job description

The Workforce Learning and Career Coaching Manager will lead the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of workforce development programs that prepare individuals for meaningful employment and career advancement. This role will combine expertise in adult learning, career coaching, program management, and employer engagement to deliver high-impact training experiences and individualized career services. The Manager will facilitate workforce readiness workshops, provide personalized career coaching, develop innovative learning solutions, and cultivate strategic partnerships with employers and community organizations to align programming with evolving workforce and labor market needs. Through data-informed decision-making, inclusive instructional practices, and a commitment to participant success, the Workforce Learning and Career Coaching Manager will drive measurable employment outcomes while fostering a culture of continuous learning, equity, inclusion, and professional growth.

Responsibilities
Workforce Development Training & Facilitation (35%)
  • Facilitate engaging workforce readiness workshops, career development courses, and professional skills training.
  • Deliver instruction on topics including:
  • Career exploration and goal setting
  • Resume and cover letter development
  • Workplace communication
  • Professionalism and soft skills
  • Digital literacy
  • Adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning styles and participant needs.
  • Create inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments that encourage participation and growth.
  • Evaluate participant learning outcomes and continuously improve training delivery.
Career Coaching & Participant Success (30%)
  • Provide one-on-one career coaching to participants throughout their employment journey.
  • Conduct career assessments and develop individualized employment plans.
  • Assist participants in identifying career pathways aligned with their interests and labor market opportunities.
  • Support job search activities, networking strategies, interview preparation, salary negotiation, and career advancement.
  • Monitor participant progress and provide accountability, encouragement, and referrals to supportive services when needed.
  • Maintain accurate coaching documentation and participant case notes.
Program Management & Quality Improvement (15%)
  • Coordinate training schedules, participant enrollment, and workshop logistics.
  • Track participant outcomes and performance metrics.
  • Maintain compliance with grant requirements and organizational reporting standards.
  • Analyze program data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Assist in developing new workforce initiatives and career pathways.
Employer & Community Engagement (10%)
  • Collaborate with employer partners to understand workforce needs and align training accordingly.
  • Support employer engagement activities including hiring events, mock interviews, guest speakers, and workplace tours.
  • Build relationships with community organizations and referral partners.
  • Stay informed on labor market trends and emerging industries.
Leadership & Organizational Contributions (10%)
  • Mentor and support facilitators, interns, or volunteers as assigned.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and innovation.
  • Participate in cross-functional organizational initiatives.
  • Represent the organization at community meetings and workforce events.
  • Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in all aspects of the program.

  • 5 years of progressive experience in business management and administration with significant experience managing a large team, especially in a nonprofit industry, is required.
  • Proven leadership in an organization with complex systems and a growing organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and implement systems that enable efficient reporting and seamless integration of systems.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
  • Proven understanding of how to collaborate with programmatic teams to manage various systems that streamline processes to support the efforts of the entire workforce.
