Job description

Position: 15-20 hours per week.

The Workforce Electrician Instructor will prepare learners for successful entry into the electrical trades and/or continued academic and apprenticeship pathways. The Instructor will bring significant union electrical experience and a strong commitment to training the next generation of skilled trades professionals.

Instructors play a vital role in delivering high-quality instruction that supports student achievement while advancing the College’s mission, values, and commitment to equity, access, and excellence. In this role, the instructor delivers approved electrical curriculum, fosters an engaging and inclusive learning environment, and supports students in achieving their educational and career goals.

The Electrician Instructor is expected to model professional behaviors, ethical conduct, jobsite safety, and effective workplace practices consistent with union and industry standards, including current National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements and best practices in the electrical trade.

  • Deliver effective classroom and laboratory instruction in electrical theory, code, and hands‑on electrical skills using sound pedagogical practices aligned with course and program learning outcomes
  • Teach industry‑standard and union‑aligned practices, including safety, tool usage, wiring methods, and electrical systems
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports diverse learners entering the electrical trades
  • Assess student learning using appropriate evaluation methods and provide timely, constructive feedback on academic and technical skill development
  • Ensure students are adequately prepared to meet course objectives, program requirements, and entry‑level electrical workforce or apprenticeship expectations
  • Maintain accurate records related to attendance, grades, competencies, and student performance
  • Prepare instructional materials and ensure tools, equipment, and laboratory resources are available, safe, and functional prior to class sessions
  • Reinforce jobsite safety, OSHA standards, and safe work practices consistent with union and industry requirements
  • Provide academic and career‑related support to students through office hours, tutoring, referrals, and guidance related to electrical career pathways and apprenticeships
  • Participate in faculty meetings, assessment activities, curriculum development, and professional development opportunities as appropriate for workforce faculty
  • Adhere to College policies, procedures, and academic standards
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, accreditation, and institutional requirements
  • Follow protocols to use college email and resources and adhere to reporting criteria of registrar, DisabilitySupport, HR, Ombudsman, studentconduct, Title IX.
  • Establish an advisory board and facilitate two meetings per year
  • Travel and attendance at recruitment events may be required
  • Must be flexible in times of course offerings
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the College’s workforce and academic mission
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED and/or completion of a related electrical, vocational, or technical training program
  • Minimum of five (5) years of verifiable experience as a journeyman electrician or equivalent, within the past ten (10) years
  • Demonstrated union electrical experience (e.g., IBEW or other recognized electrical trade union)
  • Current electrical license, certification, or credentials as required by Pennsylvania law or industry standards
  • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and current electrical safety standards
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct consistent with union and industry expectations
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a student‑focused, observation and coaching‑oriented instructional environment
  • Strong organizational, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills
  • Commitment to student success and excellent customer service
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office and learning management systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience in a community college, technical school, apprenticeship program, or workforce training environment
  • Experience serving as a union steward, foreman, journeyman trainer, or mentor within a union apprenticeship or training program
  • Experience training, supervising, or mentoring apprentices or entry‑level electricians
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards, assessment practices, and regulatory requirements in higher education or workforce training
  • Knowledge of local and regional electrical apprenticeship and workforce pathways
