Job summary

Workforce Development Instructor – Part-time

Missouri Western State University is seeking workforce development instructors to teach continuing education courses on an as‑needed basis in fields including leadership, Lean, construction/industrial technology, IT certifications, mechanical technician training, and electrical technician training.

This part‑time position requires day or evening face‑to‑face instruction and focuses solely on non‑credit programs.

Responsibilities
  • Take attendance.
  • Be present for all scheduled training or classroom hours.
  • Be available for student inquiries via email or telephone and respond in a timely, professional manner.
  • Present the subject‑matter curriculum in its entirety within the allotted time.
  • Teach the depth and scope of class materials as outlined in the syllabus, catalog, or other published program outline.
  • Show respect to all students and participants at all times.
  • Dress in business casual and professional attire at all times.
  • Work creatively in all assigned programs to keep students engaged, increasing retention and success.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
  • Abide by all applicable university academic and employment policies identified in the employee handbooks and academic catalogs.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree with 2+ years of industry‑specific experience, or
  • 5+ years of industry experience.
  • Proficiency in the area of study, including proof of certifications and qualifications where applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Confidence presenting subject matter knowledge to groups.
  • Ability to relate curriculum to relevant real‑world experience.
  • Comfortable using a laptop with Microsoft and Google applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive, Google Docs).
Physical Demands

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Additional Demands
  • This position may require evening or weekend hours.
Hours of Work
  • Limited teaching engagements throughout the year for workforce development.
