Part Time Instructor - Workforce Development

Nevada State University actively maintains an open pool of qualified individuals to be selected on an as‑needed basis by the department to fulfill part‑time temporary instructional needs. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. The position is for adjunct faculty teaching in‑person, online, or hybrid courses in the Workforce Development programs. Courses range from 1–6 credits and instructors are compensated at $1,000–$1,200 per credit hour equivalent, dependent on instructional level and subject‑matter expertise.

Workforce Development delivers professional development, continuing education, industry‑aligned training, stackable micro‑credentials, certificates, and digital badges designed to support learners at various stages of their educational and professional journeys. Programs are designed to build upon participants’ prior learning, workforce experience, technical education, and career goals while responding to emerging industry and community needs.

Core Responsibilities
  • Confer with Workforce Development staff to discuss program goals, course objectives, course material, and assessments.
  • Develop course objectives and deliver a curriculum that utilizes innovative classroom techniques and methodologies to offer students challenging learning opportunities.
  • Engage students in learning activities throughout the entirety of the course to enhance their learning and skill development.
  • Complete skill and project assessments to highlight successful completion of course.
  • Monitor student success and address inadequate progress with applicable individuals.
  • Network with college and community resources to include creative active‑learning experiences.
  • Participate in program development meetings and coordinate with instructional designer to develop web‑based content.
  • Improve program delivery through continuous improvement of course(s).
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent; some college preferred (Youth Programs).
  • Bachelor's Degree or 5 years of related industry experience with appropriate industry‑recognized certification(s) in the teaching area, or closely related field (Professional & Continuing Education Programs).
  • Demonstrated evidence of effective interpersonal, communication, organizational, and technology skills.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to teaching, mentorship, educational excellence, and learner success.
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging instructional experiences for diverse learner populations, including youth learners, adult professionals, or mixed‑experience audiences.
  • Positions involving minors require successful completion of a criminal background investigation conducted by the University.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment‑related visas).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate or terminal degree in the teaching area(s) or closely related field plus significant industry, professional, leadership, creative, technical, or executive‑level experience relevant to the instructional discipline.
  • Previous teaching, training, facilitation, mentoring, or curriculum development experience with youth and/or adult learners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to active learning, applied instruction, innovative teaching methodologies, and inclusive educational practices.
  • Competency with learning management systems and web‑based instructional platforms, including experience supporting in‑person, hybrid, and/or online learning environments.
  • Experience integrating workforce readiness, career exploration, interdisciplinary learning, or industry applications into instructional delivery.
