Workforce Development Academic Instructor

Position: Workforce Development Academic Instructor
Pay Rate: $$28.00-$38.50
Last Revised: 07/2026 Status: Non-Exempt: Part- Time (approximately 25 hrs/week)

Definition:
The Workforce Development Education Instructor provides educational instruction, High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation, and workforce-focused learning support to youth and young adults participating in The Children's Cabinet's Workforce Development & Education programs, including Washoe YouthBuild and other non-traditional education initiatives.
This position utilizes a student-centered, strengths-based approach to meet participants where they are academically and support them in achieving educational, credentialing, and career goals. The Workforce Development Education Instructor creates engaging learning opportunities that connect academic skill development with workforce readiness, career pathways, industry credentials, and long-term success.
The Workforce Development Education Instructor supports participants enrolled in programs designed to serve opportunity youth who have experienced barriers to traditional education pathways. Through academic instruction, occupational skills training, leadership development, community engagement, and supportive services, participants are supported in obtaining their High School Equivalency (HSE), earning industry-recognized credentials, pursuing postsecondary opportunities, and transitioning into employment.
This role collaborates closely with Case Managers, Program Coordinators, workforce staff, educators, schools, employers, and community partners to identify barriers, provide individualized support, and promote participant retention and completion.
The Workforce Development Education Instructor establishes an equitable, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that promotes engagement, confidence, accountability, independence, and achievement. This role may provide services in office settings, community locations, program sites, and other environments as needed.

Participant Oversight:
Provides classroom instruction, educational guidance, and workforce-focused learning support to program participants. Maintains a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment while supporting participant accountability, progress, and successful completion of program goals.

Duties:
- Develop a thorough understanding of The Children's Cabinet's mission, strategic focus areas, programs, and overall objectives, actively contributing to their success.
- Read, understand, and consistently apply all agency and department policies and procedures while adhering to ethical standards and applicable regulations.
- Provide educational instruction and HSE preparation support in areas including mathematics, reading, writing, science, social studies, and other academic skill areas based on participant needs and assessment results.
- Develop, adapt, and deliver engaging lesson plans, educational activities, and learning resources aligned with program goals and participant needs.
- Utilize differentiated instructional strategies to support participants with varying academic levels, learning styles, and educational backgrounds.
- Integrate educational instruction with workforce development, career exploration, and hands-on learning experiences to demonstrate real-world application of academic skills.
- Support participants in preparing for and successfully completing High School Equivalency (HSE) assessments through individualized instruction, practice activities, and progress monitoring.
- Conduct academic assessments and utilize participant performance data to identify learning needs, adjust instructional strategies, and support educational progress.
- Monitor participant educational progress and collaborate with Case Managers to address barriers impacting attendance, engagement, and completion.
- Collaborate with Case Managers and program staff to support individualized participant plans, educational goals, and workforce pathway development.
- Provide individualized educational support, tutoring, and skill development assistance to participants requiring additional support.
- Create and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation, accountability, and collaboration.
- Establish classroom expectations that promote professionalism, communication, teamwork, and workplace readiness.
- Encourage participants to set and achieve educational, career, and personal goals while developing confidence and independence.
- Participate in Workforce Development & Education programming including career exploration activities, employer engagement events, community service projects, leadership activities, field trips, and participant enrichment opportunities.
- Collaborate with workforce trainers, Case Managers, Career Counselors, employers, schools, and community partners to provide a comprehensive approach to participant success.
- Support participants in connecting education outcomes with career pathways, industry-recognized credentials, apprenticeships, employment opportunities, and postsecondary education.
- Communicate effectively with participants, families, schools, staff, and community partners regarding educational progress, needs, and support strategies.
- Maintain accurate participant documentation, attendance records, educational records, and required program reporting documentation.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, conferences, workshops, and trainings related to workforce development, education, youth development, instructional practices, and serving opportunity youth.
- Model professional, ethical, and positive behavior when interacting with participants, families, colleagues, and community partners.
- Maintain effective and efficient record-keeping procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Needed

- Learn new ideas and skills through reading, training, and hands-on experience.

Special Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree preferred in education, adult education, workforce development, or related field; equivalent combination of education, experience, and relevant training may be considered.
- Experience working with opportunity youth, adult learners, justice-involved youth, or non-traditional education settings preferred.
- Experience providing educational instruction, HSE preparation, tutoring, or workforce education support preferred.
- Current Nevada teaching license or substitute teaching license preferred but not required.
- Must have reliable transportation, valid Nevada Driver's License, clean driving record, and proof of insurance.
- Position may require occasional evening, weekend, or community-based programming hours.
