POSITION SUMMARY: The Underwriter’s primary role is to ensure the profitability of the company through the selection of risk based on company guidelines, while maintaining underwriting discipline and sound judgement. The Underwriter is a creative thinker who knows and understands business risks in a variety of industries. Using the insight gained through analysis, the Senior Underwriter will evaluate and recommend acceptance, modification, or rejection of new and renewal business.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports directly to the Underwriting Manager with a high level of accountability to the Insurance and Finance departments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Support long-term profitability of the enterprise through selection, pricing, and/or rejection of clients
· Review client’s operations for fit with BBSI Core and fit for BBSI service level offerings
· Collects pertinent data and documentation from branches and ensures that all file documentation is uploaded in Salesforce prior to approval and submission to the contracts department
· Understand contribution to the long-term sustainability of the company, and highlight areas of exception along with recommendations for adjustment
· Foster an atmosphere of collaboration between the Insurance and Finance Departments, and with external stakeholders
· Analyzes client safety practices for new business and renewal clients
· Recommends existing clients for pricing modification or non-renewal based on claims history
· Self-directed professional development and maintenance of knowledge of current laws, events, industry trends and economic factors that may impact BBSI and its clients
· Runs and prepares underwriting reports for Management.
· Refers complex accounts outside of granted authority to management for review
· Work under established guidelines and controls including but not limited to, GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and Sarbanes-Oxley Act guidelines

REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor’s degree in business, Risk Management, or a related field preferred.
· Proficiency in mathematical concepts and advanced Excel are essential for the position.
Salary and Other Compensation:
The starting hourly rate for this position is between $80-95K a year. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography, skills, education, experience, certifications, and other qualifications of the candidate.
This position is also eligible for annual incentive pay equal to 8% of annual regular pay, prorated in the first year, in accordance with the terms of the Company’s plan.

Paid Time Off: Accrued sick leave of 1 hour for every 40 hours of work, with maximum based on state or regional requirements; vacation accrues up to 80 hours in the first year, up to 120 hours in years 2-4, and up to 160 hours in the fifth year; 6 paid holidays annually, 4 paid volunteer days annually.
