Job description

We are seeking an experienced Workers’ Compensation, Safety & Risk Specialist to oversee workers’ compensation claims, safety initiatives, risk management, and compliance across the organization.

About the Role

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience managing the entire workers’ compensation process, from the initial incident investigation through claim management, employee follow-up, and return-to-work. Experience working within a light industrial staffing environment is a major plus, but candidates with strong safety, workers’ compensation, and risk management experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment will also be considered. This position requires someone who is highly organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple claims, incidents, employees, clients, and insurance-related matters simultaneously.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the full workers’ compensation lifecycle, from initial injury report through claim resolution and return-to-work.
  • Respond promptly to workplace injuries and coordinate the initial reporting process.
  • Conduct thorough incident and accident investigations, including gathering statements, reviewing documentation, identifying root causes, and determining corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with employees, managers, clients, medical providers, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and legal representatives as needed.
  • Monitor open claims and maintain consistent follow-up to ensure claims progress appropriately.
  • Track medical treatment, work restrictions, modified duty, and return-to-work status.
  • Assist with developing and coordinating transitional/modified-duty programs.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential workers’ compensation records and documentation.
  • Identify trends in claims and injuries and recommend strategies to reduce frequency, severity, and costs.
  • Partner with management to ensure timely reporting and compliance with workers’ compensation requirements.
  • Safety & Risk Management
  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Create safety initiatives designed specifically for industrial and light industrial work environments.
  • Conduct safety audits, workplace assessments, and incident reviews.
  • Identify workplace hazards and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop and maintain safety documentation, procedures, training materials, and employee communications.
  • Monitor safety performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Partner with operations, recruiting, branch teams, and clients to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Assist with OSHA compliance and other applicable workplace safety requirements.
  • Stay current on safety regulations, industry standards, and workers’ compensation requirements.
  • Safety Training
  • Develop and deliver safety training for employees, managers, and field personnel.
  • Create training programs covering topics such as workplace safety, injury prevention, PPE, hazard awareness, incident reporting, and safe work practices.
  • Provide additional training following workplace incidents or identified safety concerns.
  • Track completion of required safety training and maintain appropriate records.
  • Work with branch and operations teams to reinforce safety expectations.
  • Insurance, COI & Risk
  • Assist with the management of insurance and risk-related requirements.
  • Review and maintain Certificates of Insurance (COIs) and insurance documentation.
  • Assist with reviewing insurance endorsements and client-specific insurance requirements.
  • Partner with internal teams, clients, brokers, and insurance representatives to resolve insurance and risk-related issues.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, current, and properly maintained.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in workers’ compensation, safety, risk management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the entire workers’ compensation claims process, including incident investigation, reporting, claim follow-up, employee communication, and return-to-work.
  • Experience conducting workplace incident and root-cause investigations.
  • Light industrial staffing experience strongly preferred.
  • Candidates with safety/risk experience in manufacturing, warehouse, logistics, production, construction, or other industrial environments will also be considered.
  • Experience developing and implementing safety programs and training.
  • Strong knowledge of workplace safety practices and OSHA requirements.
  • Experience working with insurance carriers, TPAs, brokers, or claims administrators.
  • Experience with COIs and insurance endorsements preferred.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with multiple departments and locations.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is hands-on and proactive, not someone who simply manages paperwork. You understand how to investigate an injury, determine what happened, communicate with all parties involved, manage the claim through resolution, and identify what can be done to prevent the next incident. Experience in industrial staffing is highly valuable because the role requires an understanding of the unique safety, workers’ compensation, client, and employee challenges associated with placing temporary and contingent workers into industrial environments.

Success in This Role

Success will be measured by the ability to:

  • Effectively manage workers’ compensation claims from incident through resolution.
  • Complete timely and thorough incident investigations.
  • Improve safety practices and reduce workplace injuries.
  • Build and maintain effective safety training programs.
  • Ensure accurate workers’ compensation and risk documentation.
  • Maintain strong communication with employees, clients, carriers, and internal teams.
  • Identify trends and proactively address safety and risk concerns.
  • Strengthen the organization's overall safety culture.
