Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is hiring entry-level Workers' Compensation Claims Adjusters in a hybrid role (2 days remote / 3 in-office). No prior Workers' Compensation experience required.

You’ll receive structured training on claims handling, evaluation, compensability, medical management, and return-to-work practices. You will learn to evaluate claims, communicate with all parties, authorize medical treatment, and help injured workers navigate recovery while building a career

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor's degree preferred; or HS diploma/GED with 1–2 years of insurance experience.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Comfortable with frequent phone communication and multitasking.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Licensing: active adjuster license or willingness to obtain and maintain licenses with company support.

Responsibilities

• Learn to evaluate claims and determine compensability under laws and guidelines.
• Communicate with employers, injured workers, medical providers, and others during the claim process.
• Authorize and monitor medical treatment and coordinate care with providers.
• Support return-to-work efforts and timely delivery of benefits.
• Maintain accurate and timely claim activity documentation.
• Develop skills to independently manage Workers’ Compensation claims as training progresses.

You’ll participate in a structured training program designed to teach you the fundamentals of Workers' Compensation claims handling, including claims evaluation, compensability, medical management, benefit delivery, and return-to-work practices. As you build your knowledge and experience, you’ll help injured workers navigate their recovery while developing the skills needed for a career in claims.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor's degree and experience in customer service or service-oriented environment preferred. Candidates without an associate or bachelor's degree must have a high school diploma or GED and 1-2 years of relevant insurance experience.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Comfortable with frequent phone communication and multitasking.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Licensing Requirement: Candidates must hold an active adjuster license or be willing and able to obtain and maintain all required state licenses. The company will support the licensing process, including cost, training and compliance with ongoing continuing education requirements.

This role may be based out of the following office locations: Wilkes‑Barre, PA or Scottsdale, AZ.
