The firm operates across eight states and requires a Kansas or Missouri bar license, with potential UBS score eligibility. Essential duties include discovery, depositions, research, pleadings, and trial work before workers’ compensation judges or referees, representing employers or insurers at hearings and negotiations.

Qualifications

• J.D. with Kansas or Missouri bar license or UBS score eligibility.
• Experience in workers’ compensation defense or general litigation is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Gather and review medical evidence and medical records.
• Take depositions of claimants, physicians, medical experts, and other parties.
• Draft pleadings, findings of fact, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
• Litigate cases before a workers' compensation judge or referee.
• Represent the interests of employer or insurer at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings.
• Communicate with claims representatives.
• Monitor loss run reports for trends and alerts to management.

Job Description

Successful law firm seeks an Attorney with experience defending workers' compensation and/or insurance defense to join our Overland Park, KS office. Hennessy & Roach, P.C. is a growing and dynamic firm with an eight-state footprint (WI, IN, IL, MO, NE, IA, KS and TN).

Kansas or Missouri bar license required.

Essential Job Functions:

• Gathering and reviewing medical evidence and medical records.
• Taking depositions of the claimant, physicians, medical experts, and other parties.
• Performing legal research.
• Remaining current with developments in the law.
• Drafting pleadings, findings of fact, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
• Litigating cases before a workers' compensation judge or referee.
• Represent the interests of the employer or insurer at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings.
• Communicate with claims representatives.
• Monitor loss run reports for trends and increases and alerts management to concerns.
• Assist with the investigation of accidents and problem areas.
• Manage workers' compensation costs to reduce liability.
• Compile and submit reports required by company management.
• Coordinate and attend claims reviews.
• Negotiate settlements on behalf of the insurance company/employer.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• J.D. and licensed in Kansas or Missouri required. Or UBS Score high enough to get a bar license in Kansas.
• Experience in workers’ compensation defense work or general litigationis a plus.
• In depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology.
• Microsoft Word experience required; Time Matters legal software experience preferred.
• Firm and client confidentiality required.
