Hennessy & Roach, P.C. seeks an attorney to defend workers’ compensation and general liability cases in Illinois, joining our Springfield, IL office. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Key duties include discovery, drafting pleadings, and litigating before administrative law judges, with representing interests of employers/insurers at hearings, trials, depositions, and mediations across the state. Strong knowledge of laws and research is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in workers’ compensation or general liability defense work.
• Working knowledge of legal principles and practices.
• In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology.

Responsibilities

• Conduct discovery and prepare pleadings, findings of fact, motions, briefs, and other documents.
• Litigate workers’ compensation or general liability matters before an administrative law judge.
• Represent employer or insurer at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations and related proceedings.
• Monitor loss run reports and alert management to trends.
• Assist with accident investigations and problem areas.
• Manage workers’ compensation costs to reduce liability.
• Compile and submit reports to management and coordinate claims reviews.
• Negotiate settlements on behalf of the insurer or employer.
