The typical starting salary range for this role ($90,000 - $100,000) is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full salary range reflects the competitive labor market value across the national market and offers opportunities for growth as employees develop within the role. We have an exciting opportunity for a remote (with occasional travel to venues) Workers' Compensation Attorney. You will handle a caseload of workers’ compensation matters, conduct depositions, and represent Liberty Mutual and its policyholders at WC hearings in California. You will also interact with Liberty Mutual’s Workers’ Compensation claims organization.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop and revise legal strategies for discovery, investigation, handling, and trial/hearing of cases using Litigation Protocols.
  2. Appear before workers’ compensation boards, conduct depositions, and draft and file legal documents including summations, appeals, and rebuttals.
  3. Research applicable law, draft legal documents, and conduct settlement negotiations if requested.
  4. Advise Claims Representatives and Insured Clients, providing clear legal opinions and maintaining good relations.
  5. Stay current with legal developments and understand related medical, scientific, construction, and engineering issues.
  6. Prepare and conduct training sessions for relevant departments.
  7. Utilize technology to improve legal processes, reduce costs, and enhance quality.
  8. Collaborate with the Home Office Legal department.
Qualifications
Experience
  • Membership in the California Bar.
  • Appropriate licenses to practice before boards or federal courts are preferred.
  • At least one year of experience as an attorney.
Skills
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external partners.
  • Analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Knowledge
  • Awareness of recent legal developments and related fields.
  • Knowledge of insurance and workers’ compensation law is a plus.
  • Proficiency with legal and remote work technology.
