Workday Payroll Systems Manager - $140,000 + 10% Bonus
We are partnering with a growing, multi-state organization seeking a Workday Payroll Manager to take technical ownership of its Workday Payroll implementation and long-term optimization. This is a configuration-led role focused on building and improving the system, designing business processes, strengthening payroll-to-finance integrations and developing reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Workday Payroll implementation from a systems perspective, including requirements gathering, configuration validation, testing, parallel runs, go-live readiness and post-launch enhancements.
- Own hands‑on Workday Payroll configuration of business processes and system optimization, including payroll setup, earnings and deductions, tax‑related rules, garnishments and ongoing changes to payroll requirements.
- Take ownership of Workday payroll general ledger (GL) configuration, account mapping, payroll costing and employee cost allocations across multiple entities; partner with Finance to maintain accurate downstream accounting interfaces.
- Create, maintain and enhance Workday custom reports, calculated fields and audit reporting to support payroll accuracy, labour cost analysis and Finance and HR reporting requirements.
- Support and troubleshoot integrations and data flows between Workday Payroll, external service providers and accounting systems, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable system fixes.
- Maintain appropriate Workday payroll security, user access and approval controls, supporting audit requirements and the configuration of multi‑state payroll compliance processes.
- Develop system documentation, deliver user training and standardise Workday payroll workflows across locations, improving data quality, accountability and adoption.
- Provide guidance to Payroll Specialists and collaborate closely with HR, Finance and Operations; focus on system oversight and process improvement rather than day‑to‑day payroll processing.
Qualifications:
- Strong hands‑on Workday Payroll configuration experience, with the ability to independently diagnose issues, make system changes and optimise business processes.
- Experience supporting a Workday Payroll implementation, go‑live or major system enhancement project; configuration depth is more important than having led a full implementation.
- Working knowledge of payroll GL mapping, cost allocations, accounting controls and payroll‑to‑finance integrations; comfortable partnering with accounting stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and problem‑solving skills; experience working with an external payroll services provider or in a multi‑entity organisation is beneficial.
- Previous team leadership or mentoring experience is advantageous, alongside the ability to manage priorities and influence cross‑functional teams.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of Workday Payroll during a significant system transformation and shape how the platform operates after go‑live. If you enjoy hands‑on configuration, solving complex system challenges and driving meaningful improvements, we would welcome a conversation.
