Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead day-to-day payroll processing in Workday for 1,000+ employees, manage complex tax reporting including Form 1042-S, and ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely pay.

The role requires hands-on payroll operations, system ownership, team leadership, process improvements, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to analyze payroll data to support budgeting and grants management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience with automated payroll processing systems.
• Hands-on Workday payroll experience and tax reporting knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end payroll processing within Workday for 1,000+ staff.
• Lead year-end tax reporting, W-2 and 1042-S preparation.
• Oversee foreign national tax withholding and treaty rules.
• Supervise payroll staff and drive accuracy and compliance.
• Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Grants teams to ensure data integrity.
• Analyze payroll data and provide budgeting/cost insights.
• Identify automation opportunities to reduce manual effort.
